For those who may have missed the announcement made at all Masses last week, in March I informed you of a possible misappropriation of parish funds by our parish bookkeeper.  An independent audit conducted by the accounting firm of Elko & Associates has been completed, and the results appear to have found a likely misappropriation in the amount of $245, 257.54.

A copy of the audit was forwarded to the Diocesan Finance Office, Diocesan Lawyer Martin McKernan, and Det. Paul Martin of the Washington Township Police Department.  It has also been shared with our Business Manager, Deacon Joe Chandler (who is on a short health care leave-of-absence) and the members of our parish Finance Committee and Pastoral Council.

I wish to remind you that the parish is fully insured against this loss, minus a $200 deductible; that the employment of our bookkeeper was terminated upon our discovery of the situation; and his access to all parish accounts, information and funds has been blocked. Furthermore, we have put into place new safeguards to protect us from any future misappropriation.

Throughout this difficult period I am grateful for the invaluable guidance and support of Deacon Chandler, the Finance Committee, the Diocesan Finance Department, Mr. McKernan, Det. Martin and the WTPD.  I will keep you informed of any further developments, but if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

We are now advertising the part-time position of Parish Bookkeeper.  Please see the ad in our parish bulletin and the Catholic Star Herald newspaper.  In the meantime, thank you for your kind and prayerful understanding and support; and please keep all involved in this situation in your prayers, including our former bookkeeper and his family.

In the meantime, I want to congratulate the newest members of our Pastoral Council and officially welcome them to their exciting and challenging new ministry: Vincent Carbone, Christine Burnite, and Edward Lyons, the top 3 vote-getters in the election held at our Masses on June 1-2.  I want to thank those who were not elected for accepting their nomination and for being eager to serve our parish as members of the Council.  I also wish to thank outgoing Council members Larry Pursell, Sylvester Roman, Barbara Gevard, and Johann Capodanno for their years of outstanding service and commitment. Congratulations also to the new officers of the Council elected by its membership at our meeting on May 14:  Chairperson-Joann Buccilli, Vice-Chairperson Ray Vitale and Secretary Rita Manfre.  I truly look forward to working with them and the entire Council for the continuing growth of our parish community in the Spirit of God and the love of Our Lord Jesus Christ!  God bless you!

Let’s Go Phillies!

In His Love,

Fr. Mike
